Hey guys, it's Lee. Thanks for stopping by the Not So Political Protestant. A publication dedicated to correcting the course of the American church in regard to politics and its place in the lives of Christians. The not so political Protestant is here to call God's people back to sanity and repentance because as citizens of another world, we should live KINGDOM FIRST - COUNTRY SECOND.
Now without further ado, let's get into today's podcast.
Today's episode is a prayer for our nation, President Trump and the American church. I hope you will join me in praying this over our nation. Please consider sharing it with others so they can also join us. Because when God's people pray, change happens.
Almighty God who raises all powers and authorities to carry out your purposes. In your hand, the hearts of kings are held (Proverbs 21:1), and you have the power to sway their earthly wills to carry out your perfect and holy purposes. We come before you today with humility, knowing it is you who have placed Donald J. Trump in the office of President of the United States, as you have every leader in this great nation before him. You have done so in your great wisdom to carry out your purposes in this nation. May your will be done and not ours.
Lord, we come before you with hearts longing to see this great nation you have blessed turn back to you in repentance and humility. It is by your great power America has seen such prosperity and blessing, but we have seen a steady decline in morality, civility, trust in, and honor for your great name. Your word warns us, when a nation you have blessed turns away from you, you will remove your hand of blessing and bring your swift rod of judgment.
Lord, we the church, are stuck in the muck and mire alongside of those we blame for the decline of this nation, in part because of our obsession and idolatrous lust for political power. We have abandoned the protection of Almighty God for the fleeting protection of political power. It is that which causes us to fear that is our idol, and we have many idols in the American church today. Persecution, the economy, illegal immigration, diversity, equality, and inclusion to name a few. We who are called to love and have compassion on the lost have given in to our fleshly desires and joined the godless masses in hateful, racist, and demeaning rhetoric.
Instead of loving our enemies, we rail against them with hatred. Instead of proclaiming your good news of salvation to them, we only proclaim their sinfulness and abominations in all this. We hypocritically justify ourselves as hating the sin but loving the sinner. Our lack of compassion and love for those we are called to reach has made our voice nothing more than a sounding brass and clanging cymbal, instead of true love.
Love suffers long and is kind. Love does not envy. Love does not parade itself, is not puffed up, does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil, does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth, bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Most precious and loving father. We ask forgiveness for our blasphemous sharing of images of your sinless son to compare Donald Trump to him. We have spent more time and effort proclaiming the greatness of our political candidate than we have making your name famous among the nations. It is idolatry and we should be grieved for our sins.
At the cost of seeing lasting change and souls brought to Christ through the proclamation of the gospel, we have for 45 years prioritized our efforts to affect change in the morals of this nation through political means. We have supported candidates who claim to champion Christian agendas, the need for godly leaders, and had a zeal for toppling the powers that reject you and your authority. But that zeal has become our greatest passion.
Forgive us for putting political talking points ahead of the Word of God. Forgive us for caring more about winning elections than winning the souls of those whose political views we disagree with. Forgive us for letting fear cause us to cling to political power instead of trusting you are in control. Not only when our guy wins, but all the time.
God who grants repentance, please break our hearts and cripple our power. So we will have no other option but to trust in you alone. Lord, grant us the repentance King Solomon spoke of when he said. If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways. Then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sins, and heal their land.
By the sanctifying power of your Holy Spirit birth in us the desire and ability to defeat the sin which keeps us from fulfilling the mandate you gave us to proclaim the gospel and bring souls to Christ. God, if in your wisdom you have sent Donald Trump, not for good purposes, but instead to enact your judgment against this great nation and the false gospel of political Christianity.
We pray Lord that you will give your true worshipers, those who worship you and not the God of politics, grace for the journey that lies ahead. Give us renewed strength and hope daily as we face the judgments you bring upon this nation through your servant, Donald Trump. May we never cease to seek and deliver the foolish, those who are ignorant to the truth and immature believers by pulling them out of the fire, discipling them and modeling true Christianity to them.
God of all power and authority, we come to pray for our president. That you would bring salvation to his heart. Break through the pride and arrogance that causes him to believe he has nothing to ask forgiveness for. Open his eyes to the truth that he - like every other man, woman, and child - has a wicked and deceitful heart and is deserving of an eternity in hell without the salvation of Christ purchased on the cross.
God, we pray that you will do whatever it takes to break his heart and bring him to his knees in true surrender to you. Not the superficial salvation of a heartless prayer his so-called spiritual advisor claims he prayed. Instead Grant him repentance that causes him to pray an effectual, fervent prayer with a heart wrenching desire to serve you. Grant him real salvation that does not leave a man in the swamp of his sin but instead raises him to new life as a new creature in Christ. May your precious word, which he claims to love, manifest to him, shining a light on every lie he has believed. For God, it is only the humble and repentant heart that can truly lead a nation into godly reverence.
Father, we pray you will send true men and women of God to drown out the false teachers who surround him. The yes men and women who know not how to say you must repent but instead spew their false prophecies of him being the chosen one and that you are proud of him. Send those mighty warriors of God with boldness to speak the truth in the face of his backlash to criticism. Men and women who love the kingdom of God more than the Republican Party, who look past the shallow political Christian false gospel and see the need for the true. Heart- changing gospel of Jesus Christ. Should he do as many wicked kings have in the past and lash out in wrath toward those who speak out, we pray you will give them the supernatural strength, faith, and grace of the prophets of old, those who dared speak your truth to a wicked generation. Let their story be a testament to your grace through persecution.
Father, we pray his salvation will be so powerful and life changing that he himself will turn on those sons and daughters of Satan who told him nothing more than what he wanted to hear. Those who have twisted your precious word to build up their God whom they worship at the altar of politics. Let him despise them the way he now despises those who dare to disagree with him.
Never, in all of eternity, has an immoral man led a nation into true godly morality. And that is why he must be born again to bring the change political Christianity claims you have sent him for. God of Angel Armies, we pray you will send a modern-day Elijah to battle face to face with the prophets of political Christianity, that you may make a mockery of their, weak, impotent, gods with your all-consuming fire. May their prophets be forgotten to history.
When that spirit of Jezebel rises to destroy your prophets, may your angels comfort and care for their needs, revealing to them your army of true prophets, who will come alongside them and fight the true God ordained biblical battles.
Purify your church, O God, and renew a spirit of sanity back to your people in America. May we return to our true mission of reaching the lost. May the voices of those who have truly surrendered their lives to you rise in one voice, proclaiming the goodness of your name and making your son famous to all the world.
When political candidates are lifted up, it will always bring division, but when Christ is raised up, He will draw all men to Him.
When this happens, those men will be saved, your laws will be written on their hearts, and America will see an awakening such as we have never known in our lifetime, bringing the change we have longed for.
We pray all this in the precious name of your son who made salvation possible through his sacrifice on the cross.
Amen.
