Also, note that Cyrus’ decree applied to all the nations Babylon had absorbed via conquest and exile. While God may have been involved, it was not a singular event involving a special people.

Thanks for sharing that. I have to admit, I never noticed that before, despite how many times I've read it.

That's because it's not mentioned in the biblical account, but is mentioned in the historical records of the time. It's easy to forget the stories in the Bible took place in specific times and places and were a part of world history. When we ignore the circumstances and context, it's easy to glean the wrong lessons.

Trump is not Cyrus because we are not Israel. Nor is he Jehu because we are not Israel. He is neither of these figures because he is not God’s instrument for America. Full stop.

I agree. The question we must ask ourselves, through biblical study, is what purpose he has.

Cyrus's most significant achievement was conquering the Babylonian empire and destroying the city of Babylon. The question is, where is this new city of Babylon, the Mother of Prostitutes?

“Then the angel said to me, "The waters you saw, where the prostitute sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations and languages. The beast and the ten horns you saw will hate the prostitute. They will bring her to ruin and leave her naked; they will eat her flesh and burn her with fire. For God has put it into their hearts to accomplish his purpose by agreeing to hand over to the beast their royal authority, until God's words are fulfilled. The woman you saw is the great city that rules over the kings of the earth." Revelation 17:15-18

The modern-day Cyrus will flame the New Babylon city in one hour. We can try to understand this new city of Babylon and leave that city. But I think the truth of the prophecy should not be revealed until the moment arrives. We will all know by then. May our Lord’s will be done.
